The scientific journal The Warsaw East Law Review

The scientific journal The Warsaw East Law Review is a scholarly publication established in 2023 by the team at the Centre for Research on the Law of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Warsaw. The editorial board of the journal closely collaborates with the magazine Układ Sił and the G. Szerszeniewicz Institute of Eastern Law. The journal was established to create a scholarly space for the publication of studies on legal issues related to the law of the post-Soviet region. We also publish articles by international researchers, covering topics such as political systems, history of states and law, economics, political science, and culture of Central and Eastern European countries, as well as the post-Soviet region. The high academic quality of the journal will be ensured by the international scientific advisory board, composed of lawyers specializing in this field.

To this day, all countries of the former USSR are often perceived as a legally unified area, still under the overwhelming influence of Soviet law, despite the collapse of communist rule in 1991. This approach overlooks the legal and constitutional transformation that each country has undergone over the last 30 years. Legislation, political systems, and especially the case law and doctrine of the post-Soviet area are not as well known to Polish lawyers, at least not to the extent of their familiarity with, for example, German or American law. For this reason, in addition to classic legal articles, we plan to include reviews of doctrinal sources from the post-Soviet area and translations of selected case law in our journal.

Monographic scholarly works or even individual scientific articles analyzing all aspects of the functioning of the legal systems in the countries of the former USSR are rare. Moreover, a characteristic feature of the Polish legal literature market concerning the post-Soviet area is the dispersion of even these few sources across entirely different journals or collective monographs. There is no single recognized legal title that serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and brings together the intellectual efforts of all researchers in this field.

I warmly invite you to collaborate and submit your own works.
